The Number 1 Mistake Salespeople Make

Updated: Oct 27, 2025

In today's team meeting we spoke about a major subject for sales and life and that is:

you need to be interested in people and not to be the most interesting person.

You're not the joker or the person that's showing off - “Look at me, let me tell you all about myself.”

You need to be interested in others.

This applies to being at a party...

It applies to any conversation...

It applies to how you talk to your wife...

But it especially applies to sales.

Sales people often make the mistake of being interesting.

Many salespeople make the mistake of focusing on themselves: “Let me tell you what we do… let me tell you about us…”

The salesperson is not important.

As a salesperson, you need to understand and be interested, meaning very caring in your prospect and the person in front of you that you're trying to help.

That's what you need to do: be interested.

It's key!

The more you're interested, the more you will help people.

The key to helping someone is finding what we call the ruin - the deepest thing that's bothering a person right now.

You need to be interested in finding the ruin for your prospect, because once you find their ruin, they'll buy from you.

Why? Because you can really help them.

It’s like a doctor that really understood you, gave you the medicine, and then you believed that medicine would help you because it was directly connected to the real problem they found.

Sales works the same way.

Sales people have to find the real problem.

They have to find it in the prospect. Once they find it, anybody will buy.

So if you want to learn:

How to find the ruin?

How to improve being interested versus interesting?

Reach out to us and you can book a free call with one of our coaches.

They'll find out your ruin and how we can really help you.
